Writing A College Entrance Essay Is Not Easy
It’s definitely not an easy task to write a college entrance essay. Some students lose a lot of sleep and get very stressed out just thinking about it. They find themselves in a stupor of thought and staring at a blank computer screen. Why does this one essay inflict so much pain and pressure on so many students?
It’s a difficult essay to write for three main reasons:
- Because it means so much. Seriously, there is so much riding on the success of this essay that it’s enough to weigh down even the strongest student. This essay is the key to get into the college of your dreams. This essay is what the admissions committee uses to find out who you are, and decide if you deserve a seat in their program.
- Because it is intimate. The college admission or entrance essay gives a glimpse of who you really are. It makes bare a portion of your inner self, your thoughts and feelings, your hopes and dreams. It is meant to be an extension of you, so that the committee can get to know you better. They use it to decide if you would be a good addition to their program.
- Because it must meet guidelines and formats. The essay must abide by the rules and stipulations set out by the educational institution to which you are applying. It is a big mistake to disregard these guidelines and formats because that’s the first thing they will look for.
If it’s so difficult to write a college entrance essay, what do students do to get help? Where do they go for assistance? Some students just stick it out and write the essay themselves and hope for the best. Other students may get help from a teacher if they can. Another option is an online essay writing service. There is help available for the student who needs it.
There will always be students complaining about having to write these entrance essays. They have been around for decades and there is no end in sight. Maybe with advances in technology the written essay will one day be replaced with a video recording of the student talking. But don’t count on it.
Perhaps the essays are made to be so difficult to test students’ resilience. If they are able to survive the essay, then they will be able to survive the rigors of college life!
